Note: The opinions expressed herein are solely those of the author. Any resemblance to real librarians (living or dead, or somewhere in between) or real libraries, may be a coincidence - but probably not.

Biblia, the Warrior Librarian, was created by A.B.Credaro. The practice of Warrior Librarianship is common, and therefore quite possibly in the public domain. As such, it is likely to be exempt from any copyright restrictions. However, this does not limit Warrior Librarian Weekly, its agents, employees, heirs, spouses, family pets, or others connected with the zine, from trying to make an easy buck from its use.

All material on this site was written by A.B. Credaro unless otherwize stated. Requests for permission to publish or circulate should be directed to same.

LIBRARIANSHIP IMAGE
A New Type of Steaming

Graphic from some website
Listed as the 6th 'hottest job' in a survey of college graduate careers, Librarianship is possibly appearing to be making a come-back in the popularity stakes.

However, the survey results may be due to the disclosure that library budgets are insufficient to maintain air conditioning systems in temperate to tropical climatic zones. Watch for information on the career becoming 'cool', when reports are released for libraries in sub-arctic areas ....

PRESIDENTIAL SUPPORT
Bush Deeply Committed
The allocation of US$242M seems a very generous amount to aid libraries and museums - until the WLW calculator was dusted off. When split between 122,000 libraries, and 15,000 museums, this amounts to $1,766.42 per institution.

In the interests of financial rationalisation, it makes sense to now combine museums and libraries - particularly as collections' median copyright dates continue to age, due to insufficient money to upgrade and keep the collections current ...

WLW TECHNOLOGY
Loss Reduction
Book Vending Machine The idea of charging patrons for loans is repugnant to librarians, but libraries can take a lead from modern supermarkets. The fully-refundable fee for "hiring" shopping carts reduces theft and loss rates, and also gets stuff put back in the right place.

The WLW Research Laboratory has now produced the prototype of the Library Vending Machine. Faster than a speeding Overdue Notice, more powerful than intimidating glares, able to leap small piles of books ...

Where's the book?
Biblia's Guide to Warrrior Librarianship Bound page proofs of Biblia's Guide to Warrior Librarianship were exhibited at the ALA mid-winter conference this week. Latest release date from the publishers is now March, 2003. Sigh.

A preview of the front and back covers is available here, at no cost. You'll only have to buy the bits in between, but they'll throw in a hard copy of the covers, gratis ...

STREAMING MEDIA
Eat, Drink and Read (then sleep)
Given patrons' penchant for eating and sleeping in libraries, it's no wonder that New York's Library Hotel has found their themed accommodations so popular - running at around 80% occupancy.

With 10 floors based on the main divisions of DDC, and individual rooms by precise Dewey number, plus reading rooms and Poetry Gardens, it is a great shame that it costs (from) US$295 per night. The less affluent bibliophile will have to continue using the free facilities provided by public libraries, for respite accommodation and informal sustenance venues ...

MORE ORIGINAL HUMOR
Laugh yourself comatose.
No, folks, WLW isn't just yet another directory of humor. The Humor Index contains over 70 original humor items, all written by Biblia the Warrior Librarian. Honest. Use the genetically unmodified Alphabetical Index or the dolphin-safe Dewey Version. Caffeine-free version still to come ....

LIBRARIES IN THE HEADLINES
Following the WLW inciteful expose of Blix's revelation of the lack of understanding of library goals by national security departments, [see last editorial] the Brunai Library Association initiated a cunning education campaign.

By inviting their country's premier security officials to present papers at their annual conference, librarians were able to emphasise their goals, reinforcing their ideals with a food-fest incorporating a tour of the local points of interest, plus a sample bag of library products ...
