WORKPLACE HARMONY
"Snake in the Grass" warning re-issued
Library folk who subscribe to electronic discussion lists know the benefits well, and probably are more than aware of the dangers inherent in posting any information that might possibly cause even the slightest degree of offence to a particular individual.
In the heat of battle, the frequent warnings about listerv's Big Brother Capabilities ("other people can read your postings") don't seem too pertinent. Or can be momentarily forgotten.
What many information professionals seem to overlook is the Little Sibling Syndrome; forwarding the email on to people who would otherwise never have seen it, in order to achieve some sort of self-aggrandisement or back-stabbing revenge or possibly pander to an over-inflated ego that produces self-righteous indignation and demonstrates absolutely no consideration of the intent of the original posting. Which in Australia is a violation of Telecommunication laws. And obviously quite different from any moral outrage expressed by fellow subscribers.
Beware, Little Sibling. Your own identity may not be as secure you might like to think ...

SPECIAL LIBRARIES
NOCALL newsletter breaks new ground
Law librarians have once again pushed forward the frontiers of International Copyright Information dissemination.
Elisabeth McKechnie and Susan Llano, Reference Librarians at UC Davis Law Library, have done an extraordinary job in their review of the seminal paper on the topic of royalty rip-offs for librarians who are also casual, freelance writers. Or who at least have had their articles published in journals.
Interestingly, but in no way related to that review, or indeed to UC law students (including their associates, family, friends, or others who may have been connected to them in any way, whether living or not, and regardless of any similarity or incidental commonalities, without prejudice and in consideration of all the other stuff that should be here and is omitted only for reasons related to the amount of space and time available), a study a few years back showed that of all the specialist academic libraries, it was the hard copy resources relating to law which were most frequently vandalised ...

LIBRARY COMEDY
Where are "The Librarians"?
A(ustralian).B.C. Television has yet to release any further information on the much-publicised and long-awaited comedy "The Librarians".
Although reporting that production was due to start in early March, there have been no updates, trailers, discussion groups formed, nor protest letters written. Yet.
Those seeking further information, such as when the 6 part show will be broadcast, should write to Kelly Davis, ABC TV Publicity, or maybe accept the invitation to contact her via the cellphone number provided on the ABC website.
In the meantime, you could go to Cheddar Vision, and watch a cheese ripen via webcam. Well done, Our Rosemary, for finding that particular diversion ...

JUST PLAIN WEIRD
More search terms revealed
Following the phenomenal success of this feature in the last edition (no one wrote to complain), WLW is if not actually proud, then at least not overly embarrassed to offer some more extracts from the official WLW Site Search Report:
Fri Apr 20 10:09:47 2007 "harassment"
[Ed: having a bad day, huh?]
Thu Apr 19 14:38:55 2007 "let library fall by the wayside" [ED: Never!]
Wed Apr 25 05:56:04 2007 "insurance coverage for library" [Ed: Guess that's one strategy for dealing with harrassment and neglect, although possibly a little extreme]
Thu Apr 26 18:42:29 2007 "illitercay" [Ed: Indeed]
Sat Apr 28 09:07:24 "sighnage"
Sighnage? Now there's a thought. Although Ed should get his own website ...

| WLW ORIGINAL LIBRARY HUMOR |
MORE ORIGINAL HUMOR
Laugh yourself comatose
Research has shown that the average librarian will take 10 to 15 minutes to read this web page. Anecdotal evidence suggests that many librarians fear they do not have enough time to investigate the humor links. The majority of the 110+ original library humor items (all written by Biblia, and not available anywhere else on the 'net) in the Humor Index are designed to take less than 2 minutes to read.
However, if you choose to hang around there for hours reading them all, then re-reading them, then WLW cannot take any responsibility. You now have the choice of using the genetically unmodified Alphabetical Index or the dolphin-safe Dewey Version. Caffeine-free version has been temporarily canned, pending an FDA investigation ...

A new season, a new school term, and another new library gig. Is it all good, do I hear maybe at least one person ask?
Moving ever closer to winter, who can believe the daytime temperatures in Sydney - 27 degrees (80 F)! Not even the lightest of sweaters are needed. And a good drop of rain has fallen; Sydney hasn't looked this green for years! Hopefully that answers the question to the satisfaction of anyone who might have been wondering.
The plans for the trip to New York NY are on hold again, but definitely not postponed at this stage. If Plan A goes ahead, it's only a few months off. Plan B does not yet have a timeline ...

Many thanks to our friends over at Ask a Ninja for this very helpful tip on how to deal with the ongoing annoyances of cell phones in libraries. Also, thanks to possibly our newest Best Friends over at YouTube for distributing this video.
YouTube folk are encouraged to mention to our mutual friends over at Google that there would be no objection to our Google friends making a similar offer to purchase Warrior Librarian ...

Greetings,
One title on your Amazon wish list for your April Birthday reminded me of a comment - on men and motherhood - by Gore Vidal:
"They may have perky nipples, but they aren't connected to a dairy."
cheers, etc.

Hi Geo,
I am hugely heartened that someone at least looked at my Birthday Wish List! Not quite the same as actually receiving one of the titles, but as with all library-related issues, one settles for what one gets. Sigh.
Regards,
